How to have fun when it's raining

Secondary Research

England gets about 140 days of rain a year.

Ideally the games in my books will appeal to people of all ages. These games are specifically for children and won't keep anyone over 10 entertained for very long.

Drinking games:
drinking games can be adapted so that the forfeit is something over than alcohol.

Primary Research:

I wrote a short survey to help me define the kind of games I should include in the books!
The Audience who answered this are 17-21

The results from the survey indicate that drinking games are the most common games played,
people think that a a book of games will be good if it comes with the necessary objects needed to play the games.
Drinking games are the most common games apart from Playstation or Xbox games.
£0-5 is the appropriate price to market this product.

I will include games that can be played as drinking games but I will suggest a way to make them into non-drinking games aswell.

Stamp it! rationale

Figures in the Habits of a Lifetime report, commissioned to mark the start of Energy Saving Week, said 71% of UK consumers admit to leaving standby buttons on once a week.
Meanwhile, 65% of UK consumers leave chargers on once a week and 63% forget to switch the lights off when leaving the room.

Eco Facts & Figures

Paper

  • Recycled paper saves 60 percent energy versus virgin paper.
  • Recycled paper generates 95 percent less air pollution: each ton saves 60 pounds of air pollution.
  • Recycling one ton of paper saves 17 trees and 7,000 gallons of water.
  • Every year, enough paper is thrown away to make a 12-foot wall from New York to California.
  • Production of recycled paper uses 80 percent less water, 65 percent less energy and produces 95 percent less air pollution than virgin paper production.
  • If offices throughout the country increased the rate of two-sided photocopying from the 1991 figure of 20 percent to 60 percent, they could save the equivalent of about 15 million trees

Direction

I have looked into 0 carbon emission housing, and it still seems to be in the early stages and there is no way people can really change their lives to help the world without buying a specially designed 0 emission house. I also looked into low impact transport, and use of public transport/ walking rather than driving, but public transport is generally a bad service and expensive, so that'll have to change before people use that instead of driving.
The best way to help make a greener earth is to do little things like change lightbulb to energy saving, turn off switches, all things that are ridiculously easy but not a lot of people do them.

Stamp it! Facts

Leaving switches on facts:

"As you can see, if you were to keep all these appliances on standby they would add up to 83 watts, which if left on standby for say 18 hours a day, 365 days a year works out at roughly £76 added to your annual energy bill – not a small figure by any means."

What is a line?

Wiganese!

Found this Wiganese test at home
Translated by me mam:

This is more to do with pronunciation rather than slang, so may not be too much help for my project, bit it's still quite interesting how differently something is said due to where abouts you are in the uk.

What is a Line?-Research

I am going to design 'a freshers guide to understanding your flatmates'
it will translate some of the more common slang that is used from all regions of the UK

it will fold out into a large scale poster that could be put on their wall. It will also act as an icebreaker as people from the specific regions can come into each others rooms and try and translate some regional slang.

Freshers material is all generally horrible:

As my poster is going to be dealing with a lot of type I will look at typographic posters and how they work.
For the trees, a really nice lettering project from Saranna Drury“Drunken Promises”, type experiment made by Jeff Rogers for sixwordstoryeveryday.com. Writting by Dylan Sneed.

I quite like the idea of using bold block typefaces with different colours and close spacing to fill the poster.
Rezo Versos poster realized & printed with letterpress by Prensa La Libertad for an exhibition between the Hamilton Museum (USA) and Libros La Teatral (Argentina).

Or all the type coming together to make an image would really lend itself well to being a big poster
Woodtype forme 1000mm x 1500mm, designed by Andrew Bainbridge for the Chase Manchester.

These letterpress posters would work really well, I could incorporate illustrations to pair with the slang:
