2.Post Modernism lecture notes



  • More fun than modernism, less serious.
  • An exhausted and pessimistic attitude- Everything's been done before.
  • Established as a term in 1970
  • Post modernism responds to the rules and boundaries set by modernism by having no rules or boundaries e.g. Jamie Reid- punk style.
  • Where Modernism ignored peoples needs, Post modernism adds more of a human element with colours and curves and less rules.
  • Post Modernism attacks the pretensions of modernism.
  • Takes influence from the past and recycles old ideas.
  • Experimental design that questions readability/ legibility.
  • notable designers include: Carson, Brody, Greiman, Barnbrook, Chantry.
