5 x Competition Briefs

Forestry Commission England

Brief in Short:
Your brief is to create a campaign to raise awareness of the various outdoor activities the Forestry Commission provides. We need to engage with a younger audience to highlight what a great day out our sites provide, whether it’s with family, your friends or both. It’s great value, its healthy and fun.

Rationale:

This brief will give me the opportunity to play to some of my strengths, I will be able to use plenty of illustration with big type. It's all about pushing the fun aspect and getting people involved which is always right up my street. This brief will allow me to try out some new ideas and work with some experimental formats with content that I am very interested in.

LEGO

Brief in short:

To create a campaign for the LEGO Brand that distinguishes LEGO from all the other construction toys in the toy market by highlighting the benefits and points of difference of LEGO rather than the detriments of our competitors.

Rationale:

I think that this brief will be a good challenge, it will be very easy to make something that is predictable and cliché, which will force me to really think outside the box. Although this will be a popular brief I think I will be able to get some good work out of it that is a bit different and more creative than what you would expect for a LEGO campaign.

UK Greetings

The greetings card industry is a very competitive market. We are constantly looking for ways to stand out from the crowd, whether this be through an exciting card format, interesting use of finishes (emboss, foil, glitter, varnish, gems, googly eyes, printed card attachments, bespoke attachments, buttons etc), or simply stunning designs that stand out from the competition.
Rationale:

I have recently been interested in doing some letterpress down at Vernon street and I think that this brief would tie in very well with that. Again, this is something that I have never really done and it will be a challenge to design something that hasn't already been done a million times. This brief will enable me to get hands on and a bit experimental with print and hopefully will produce some good results and educate me more about print and type.

Nissan Leaf

The problem is that Nissan LEAF is an amazing breakthrough in technology but not many people really know it.

The creative challenge is to make an audience that’s in love with today’s lifestyle technology feel the excitement of the fact that . . . Nissan LEAF Breaks the Technology Barrier

Rationale:

This brief is quite a lot different to the others as it has a very specific audience that will be interesting to design for, the design needs to captivate attention and imagination as well as clearly communicating the technological aspects without confusing or exaggerating the information.
This brief will force me to leave my comfort zone a bit and try some different design techniques and really focus in on how I am going to interact with the audience.

Arcade Fire T shirt

Brief:
Since Arcade Fire's 2004 Funeral debut, their music has earned commercial and critical acclaim including the 2011 Grammy for Album of the Year.
Even as popular as they have become, it’s still not easy to describe Arcade Fire’s music in a few words. So, we want you to describe it with your design!
Think about what makes Arcade Fire who they are and design the perfect tee for fans everywhere.
What's more, 25% of sales from the winning design will go to Partners In Health - The international organization devoted to bringing high quality health care to the world's poorest in Haiti and 10 countries around the globe.

Rationale:
This will be a really fun brief to turn around quickly and will allow me to explore a range of creative ideas and stand a chance of winning which would be nice.
